A gameboy-inspired game about an old goldfinch, created in ten days for GBJAM 14 (theme: "Old Gold").

KNOWN BUGS: Most of the special memory modes do not work correctly and may crash the game. Select Mallory's (upper left) to play a normal hand (that works in testing). Bertram's also works (lower left). Buff's (upper middle) will not crash the game and probably (?) works. Robin's (lower middle) does not work but won't crash the game probably! (Last day of the jam with about 12 hours left, after a whole day making the rest of the game function, I thought, "Hey, remember all that logic for the card game you wrote over the last week or so? Rewrite it in three hours right before bedtime. It'll go great.")

Quitting from the pause menu breaks the game and there are no options. That button is a decoy. (I recommend muting your browser tab/computer if you find the music as irritating as I do. I listened to it A LOT while playtesting. I'm not a natural composer, clearly.)

Controls:

  • A [accept]: Z, K, or Period [.]
    • (On the right, like the gameboy, unless you're using Z/X.)
  • B [cancel]: X, J, or Comma [,]
  • START: Spacebar
  • SELECT: Shift Key
  • D-PAD: WASD/Arrow Keys

Whist instructions can be found here for easy reference, or press SELECT in-game for a pop-up overview of the basic rules. There is an optional in-game tutorial, too, but my partner has told me I'm atrocious at teaching trick-takers. Best of luck, and hope you enjoy!
